Our Next SPdL Mission Opportunity

Second Saturdays at Second-Ponce

Your 2010 Missions Committee has been busy coordinating a whole series of missions projects that will take place throughout the year. Scheduled for the second Saturday of each month, these Second Saturday projects will explore a range of local mission opportunities. Check back often for information on the latest assignment, or contact Ministry Assistant Lisa Lynch directly at 404.591.4366 or llynch@spdl.org.

Saturday, August 14 Assignment: The Atlanta Community Food Bank
In 2009, Atlanta Community Food Bank volunteers contributed nearly 76,000 hours of time -- the equivalent of 36 staff members working full-time – to help make their ministry a meaningful success to so many Atlanta residents in need. Here’s your chance to up the total: we are partnering with the Atlanta Community Food Bank for our next Second Saturday Missions and Ministry Day, which is coming up Saturday, August 14. From 1 p.m. until 4, we will help sort, bag and move groceries at their warehouse (located at 732 Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318). Meet there at 1 p.m., or join us as we depart from the SPdL parking lot at 12:30 p.m. For more details or to sign up, contact ministry assistant Lisa Lynch at 404.591.4366 or llynch@spdl.org.

Please give generously to our July BCM Food Drive

A bag of groceries can make a huge difference in the life of a family in financial crisis. As you shop this month, please help support Buckhead Christian Ministry’s Food Bank by making a few extra purchases of food or hygiene supplies for our July food drive. Pick up grocery lists in the Family Life Center, in the North Bridge Lobby, or on the 1st floor of the Children’s Building. Please deposit your donations in the green collection bins at these sites, or make a financial donation so that BCM can buy the groceries at a substantial savings. Make your check payable to SPdL or BCM with “BCM food drive” in the memo line.

Help Buckhead THRIFTique Stock Its Shelves

Buckhead THRIFTique, Buckhead Christian Ministry's thrift store, will be unable to give vouchers for free clothing to people in need -- more than 400 people monthly -- without your donations. Buckhead THRIFTique provides free clothing to people in crisis and sells affordable clothing to the Atlanta community.

Clean, gently used clothing, small electronics and household items can be donated Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at the store’s new location: 800 Miami Circle, Suite 160, Atlanta, GA 30324. Volunteer opportunities are also available for as little as three hours per month. For more information, contact Volunteer Manager
Lacy Kerkhof at 404.239.0058, ext. 111.

Directions from Piedmont Road: Turn onto Miami Circle (between Mercedes Benz of Buckhead and Buckhead Crossing Shopping Center) from Piedmont Road. Drive .3 miles. Turn left at the driveway immediately after Ashore Ironworks and pass under the metal archway. The THRIFTique is on the right at the back of the parking lot.
