We Must Each Do What We Can

By Chris Mathis

As we enter the summer season, many families are making plans to travel. It’s the time of summer camps, visiting loved ones and vacation getaways. These trips make wonderful family memories and create opportunities to fellowship beyond the walls of our building. As a biproduct, however, many of us will miss Sunday worship and Wednesday fellowship leading to a disconnect with our church. By continuing to financially support Second-Ponce throughout the summer, each of us will reap a portion of the blessing of worship while we are away and find our church ready to kick-off a new season.

The obligations of the Church don’t go on holiday during the summer season. You know that! In fact, summer is a busy time in the life of Second-Ponce. In addition to the customary ministries, we are also engaged in Vacation Bible School, children and youth summer Passport camps and SPdLU. Historically, attendance has been lowering during the summer and as a result we received lower financial contributions. This reduced giving has the potential to strain our finances until the fall and hinder beginning strong in a new season.

SPdL recently kicked off a campaign to raise $400,000 during the summer months aimed at covering church expenses from May through July. Many members have begun utilizing our online giving tool to streamline their contributions and make it even easier to give. It’s a win-win for the congregation and the church. If you have not signed up for online giving, I would ask you to consider doing so. If you prefer to tithe in another way, I hope that you will make arrangements to continue to give while away this summer.

Finally, thank you for your contributions to Second-Ponce. No matter how large or small, every dollar we receive is important to continue our ministries and maintain the beautiful facilities we all enjoy. We must each do what we can to continue to bring God’s love to our community, Atlanta and beyond.
