Meet the Alma Domestic Violence Foundation

Each Wednesday in May, the church blog will spotlight one of our on-campus partners (organizations operating from Second-Ponce). This week, we invite you to meet the Alma Domestic Violence Foundation.

Alma provides direct services and training to victims including pre-employment and work maturity skills, financial literacy, healthcare and social services. We also work with survivors by helping them find residency in local shelters and job placement within our established community of corporate partners.

Across the country, we support shelters and work with individual victims of domestic violence (women and girls 8+) both currently residing in shelters and those in transition. In Georgia alone, we work with over 64 facilities across the state in the following counties: Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Fulton, and Gwinnett.

We also work directly with students in middle and high school, colleges and universities regarding dating violence prevention and education. We provide hospitals with domestic violence transitional services to include post-discharge assistance and holistic wellness care.

In addition, we sponsor annual events within the community, including our Walk a Mile in Their Shoes, The National Domestic Violence & Sexual Abuse Survivors Conference and Dinner for Divas.

IN THEIR OWN WORDS

What motivates and inspires the work of your organization?

Having been a survivor of domestic violence herself, Alma G. Davis started the Alma Domestic Violence Foundation to provide others with access to lifesaving resources and services that empower survivors to take back control of their lives and heal from the trauma they’ve experienced.

Finish this sentence, “Our organization has had a successful day if…”

We are able to increase client safety, provide resources or assist survivors with coping with trauma. We accomplish this by advocating for, securing and/or connecting an individual or family impacted by domestic violence to safe housing, financial resources, mental health services and other critical assistance needed to help them on their journey from rescue to renewal.

What’s something about your organization that most folks don’t know?

Our organization helps not only women, but men and children (as young as 8 years old) who have been negatively impacted by domestic violence by giving them access to counseling, therapy, emergency housing and other case management services.

Are there any resources or events you’d like to highlight?

2 events: Charity Golf Tournament (new date of Friday, Oct. 6th ) and Walk a Mile in Their Shoes on Oct. 7th
