Welcome to Worship!

You have heard and seen recent presentations from Chairs of the Community, Mission and Discipleship Councils within our new leadership structure. These councils were created in line with Second-Ponce’s core values. The fourth and final pillar in our church’s values is Worship:

Worship at Second-Ponce offers the gifts of music, prayer, message and scripture. Our hope is that the depth of our worship both honors God and engages our own intellect and curiosity. Here, we value everyone’s faith expression in a spirit of hospitality and truth.

We come together as a church in worship every week–in the 11 AM service, in the All Together service and many of us online. The Worship Council will seek to ensure that these services continue to be meaningful and authentic. We have all been a part of different styles of worship, but the basic elements in our corporate “reverence and adoration toward God,” include music, prayer, Scripture and message.  As we all sing together, participate in active listening to the Word of God and join with the person leading prayer, we are not just observers, but active participants in worship.

Our staff does an incredible job planning our worship services, especially when we think about the many people and details involved in making sure that things flow for our worship experience–music, baptism, Lord’s Supper, offering and the technical aspects to name a few. The Worship Council aims make sure people are in place to make all these things happen, to encourage staff with ideas and feedback and to encourage lay participation in the services.

We’ve not had a worship council or committee in the past, so it’s new to all. I welcome your input, suggestions and feedback. Are there areas where you can be more actively involved in worship?
