Meet Day1

Each Wednesday in May, the church blog will spotlight one of our on-campus partners (organizations operating from Second-Ponce). This week, we invite you to meet Day1.

Day1 is the voice of the historic Protestant churches, presenting outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, including the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, the Episcopal Church, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), United Church of Christ, United Methodist Church, Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), American Baptist Churches, and others. Our website features an extensive library of lectionary-based sermons in text and audio, video resources, and helpful blog posts, along with other helpful information for lay persons and pastors.

In Their Own Words

What motivates and inspires the work of your organization?

Day1 is a ministry of The Alliance for Christian Media that envisions a world where the Good News of Christianity is accessible to all. The mission statement says it all. The Mission of the Alliance for Christian Media is to deliver the Good News of Jesus Christ to Christian believers and those curious about the Christian faith, through traditional and emerging forms of communication.

Finish this sentence, “Our organization has had a successful day if…”
Peter Wallace says, “I was recently at a popular preaching conference with 1200 preachers from across North America and beyond. We had a Day1 booth, and my day was made multiple times as many of these preachers stopped by to thank us for our ministry. They use Day1 as a resource in their own sermon preparations. Of course, we also had preachers who had never heard of Day1, so it was a great opportunity to let them know about it! Either way made my day.”

Ethel Ware says, “ If I get a telephone call from a listener who is eager to tell me about how much the sermon meant she heard Sunday morning on WMVA in Martinsville, Va, or 97.7 in Opelika, Al., or any of the other 200 stations that broadcast Day1 -- she wants a copy of the transcript – if she can have a couple she will send one to her grandson and give her pastor a copy – it makes my day “

What’s something about your organization that most folks don’t know?
I think our state of the art recording studio right here on the ground level of the Second-Ponce de Leon education building may be a secret.

You may not know that the Alliance for Christian Media has broadcast a sermon every Sunday for more than 78 years without missing a Sunday . . . first as “The Protestant Hour” and then in 2002, we became “Day1.”

Are there any resources or events you’d like to highlight?
The Day1 website is a treasure trove of blogs, audio and text resources and sermons. Podcasts are available, so check them out – click podcasts on the website: https://day1.org

How can our readers support you?
We happily accept donations. We are supported by our listeners. Also, listen and talk about us. In Atlanta we are on WSB 95.5 and 750 AM every Sunday at 7:05 a.m
